Russian military transport aviation this year will receive aircraft of electronic warfare (EW) and reconnaissance Il-22 “Porubshchik”, which help to drown even the most high-tech air defense system, the Izvestia newspaper writes on Friday referring to the chief command of the Russian Air Force.
In October last year it was reported that the Russian Defense Ministry will receive by the end of the year three Il-22PP aircraft with the new electronic warfare and reconnaissance system “Porubshchik”.
“The Russian military transport aviation (BTA) this year will receive the first aircraft of electronic warfare (EW) and reconnaissance Il-22” Porubshchik. “The cars will be put into service by the air force of the REB of the 117th military transport aviation regiment because of its emblem – A bear tearing apart the radio antenna, the detachment received an unofficial nickname “flying bears,” the newspaper said.
It is noted that the “Porubshchik” are considered to be among the most effective EW aircraft in the world. They can independently detect the radioelectronic radiation of enemy air defense complexes, suppress them with powerful interference or distort the signals of their radar. At the same time, it is specified that the Il-22PP does not interfere with the operation of the radio electronic systems of its troops.
As the newspaper writes with reference to the Russian VCS, the first Il-22PP aircraft will be transferred to the airborne unit of the REB this year, the crews are already mastering new machines.
