The Su-27 fighter was raised over the Baltic Sea to intercept the American B-52, the Defense Ministry reported.
The plane that flew over neutral waters along the Russian border was discovered around 10:00 (Moscow time). The Su-27 fighter from the air defense forces of the Baltic Fleet rose to intercept it.
Approaching the plane to a safe distance, the crew of the Su-27 identified it as a strategic B-52 bomber. The fighter escorted an American aircraft until he retired from the Russian border, and then returned to the airfield.
Earlier in Tallinn, it was claimed that B-1 and B-52 strategic bombers were taking part in the NATO Saber Strike exercises taking place in Estonia.
Also on Tuesday, over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea, a plane was found flying with the transponder turned off. On his interception raised fighter MiG-31
“The interceptor’s crew approached the target for a safe distance and visually identified it as a patrol anti-submarine aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force P-3C Orion,” the Ministry of Defense noted.
After the Norwegian plane changed the route, the fighter returned to the airfield.
The last time Russian fighters went to intercept an American aircraft in May. Then the Su-30 intercepted the P8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft flying over the Black Sea, which flew to the Russian border. After that, the American aircraft changed the route.
