President of the United States Donald Trump on Monday called the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to express his condolences in connection with the explosion in the metro of St. Petersburg and discuss the fight against terrorism, the White House press service reported.
“President Donald Trump talked with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to condemn today’s attack in St. Petersburg President Trump expressed deep condolences to the victims and their relatives and the Russian people,” the report said.
“President Trump offered full support to the US government in response to the attack and to bring the perpetrators to justice.” President Trump and President Putin agreed that terrorism must be decisively and quickly defeated, “the report said.
This conversation between the leaders was the second since the entry of Trump in office on January 20.
On Monday, at about 14.30 Moscow time, an explosion occurred on the stretch between the stations “Sennaya Ploshchad” and “Technological Institute-2” of the St. Petersburg metro. Another explosion, at the station “Ploshchad Vosstaniya”, was prevented due to the timely detection of an improvised explosive device.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation initiated a criminal case under the article “terrorist act”, the investigation will check other versions of the incident. According to the latest data of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, as a result of the terrorist attack, 11 people were killed, 45 injured are in hospitals. In turn, the head of the Emergencies Ministry in St. Petersburg published a list of hospitalized, which lists 51 people.
