Moscow and Beijing are entering a new era of globalization

To a new level, Moscow’s relations with another Far Eastern neighbor – Beijing. In China, the summit starts, to which both countries have long been preparing. The new ambitious economic project “One belt – one way” will connect 60 countries on three continents. The integration pole will arise in opposition to the first world economy – the US.

Most similar to the Middle East bazaar is the Muslim quarter in the center of Xian. In a 10 million city, there are only 30,000 of them – women wearing hijabs, men in white prayer caps prepare roasted meat, invariably halal. Not on skewers, but on sticks.

If it were not for a crowd of tourists with smartphones and blinding neon signs – the quarter lives, as in the VIII century, when in Xi’an for the first time the Arab soldiers settled. Many Chinese Muslims are descendants of the very same warriors who guarded the trade caravans that walked along the Great Silk Road. It originated from here.

The ancient city of Xi’an, the Chinese consider the cradle of civilization. Once it was the largest on the planet and for over a thousand years served as the capital of the country. The monument to the former greatness is the only surviving wall in China. She is so long that on her rides bicycles or electric vehicles.

On a solid foundation of the past – skyscrapers of the future: Xi’an is now the new starting point of the economic belt of the Silk Road. Shaanxi Province since April 1 is one of four pilot free trade zones, primarily with the countries of Central Asia and with Russia.

“Now the trend is that Russia already exports its products to China. Wheat and flour we can buy even through the Internet. From your flour, we make delicious ravioli and pampushki,” says Gui Tsunyun, director of the Department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC.

The product hit parade – ice cream, bread, chocolate. There are also new, unexpected export items – Russian herbs for Chinese medicine and semi-precious stones for handicrafts. The new Silk Road is also an interface with the Eurasian Economic Union, the idea of “Big Eurasia” voiced by the Russian president. Negotiations are already underway on a draft trade agreement between the Eurasian Commission and China.

“The essence of this treaty is the building of an integration association when it comes not only to trade in goods or services, but about the mutual growth of economies, the growth of a large market where they manufacture, sell and consume,” Andrei Denisov said, an extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the PRC.

At the upcoming summit, a list of concrete projects can be presented. Our cooperation is historical: A great way passed through the territory of modern Russia – the northern coast of the Caspian Sea through Astrakhan. In China, a fragment of the ancient route was preserved in Ningxia province among the brick-red mountains.

“Merchants went this way from China to Central Asia and India. Here they stopped because there was water here. They made caves in which they lived and prayed, and carved statues. This is the XIV century”, – tells the guide Tsuo Wei.

Cluttered in the gorge modest path along the riverbed. The new Silk Road is the highways in the mountains of the northern provinces of China, the infrastructure – land and sea routes, as well as mutual investments, for example, in the energy sector. Although China remains an active importer of coal and Russia is in the top five suppliers, in the capital all coal substations have already been stopped. The latest substation is near launches – eco friendly: emissions of harmful substances, smog and dust have decreased by almost 90 percent. Futuristic outside and inside, twice as efficient, powerful gas and steam turbines warm the western regions of Beijing.

“Firstly, we are interested in the development of energy projects in Russia. Secondly, in the import of coal from Russia. And thirdly, in cooperation in the field of technology – equipment for boiler-houses and energy-saving technologies, “- says Zhoi Yanlong, vice president of investment of the energy company.

Negotiations with Russian colleagues will be held at the upcoming summit.
